GGG vs Rolls – Live
It’s a whole new ballgame for boxing‘s pound-for-pound superstar attraction Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin. Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs), from Karaganda, Kazakhstan, brings his Big Drama Show back to the “Mecca of Boxing”– Madison Square Garden for the first time in over two years in his eagerly-awaited DAZN debut on Saturday, June 8. Golovkin, whose resume includes a record 20 consecutive Middleweight title defenses (18 by way of knockout), has consistently drawn packed houses to the five previous events he has headlined at The Garden, dating back to 2013.
But the granite-chinned power puncher needs more than a win over someone who hasn’t beaten anybody with a Wikipedia page. He needs to make a statement, whether that’s a first-round knockout or a 12-round clinic. He can’t falter and he can’t begin the same kind of decline that Joshua has seen since beating Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017.
Golovkin has said he doesn’t want to spend the rest of his career chasing titles. He’s said he wants to fight the best, but until he makes another big statement win, the best won’t be inclined to fight him. Why would Canelo take a third fight? Why would any of the other top middleweights in the world fight him? The payday would be nice no matter what, but the shine is off Golovkin, at least for now
With that being said, I look for Golovkin to get as much work in as he feels he needs before he closes the show with a knockout victory over the untested Rolls. Although 19-0 with 10 knockouts to his credit, nothing on Rolls’ record indicates to me that he’s going to provide any trouble for Golovkin. My guess is that Golovkin will get his work in and end this fight between rounds five and seven.
